City NewsTaipei Shares Flora Expo Experience with Taichung![]() Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin accompanied his Taichung counterpart Jason Wu and over 20 City Councilors on a visit to Xinsheng Park of Taipei Expo Park on August 10. Taichung City Government is bidding for the hosting right of 2018 International Flora Expo. Hau promised unreserved assistance to the municipality in mid-Taiwan, should it win the prestige to host the floricultural fest. According to Hau, Taichung has been exerting both its “hard” and “soft” power globally. Lishan High Mountain Tea, for example, is well-regarded in the tea market of London thanks to Hu’s promotion effort. The total output of Taichung’s Precision Machinery Innovation Technology Park also surpassed Italy, claiming third place in the world. Citing that Taichung was chosen as one of the Top Seven Intelligent Communities during the 2012 Intelligent Community Forum, Hau remarked it is a rare honor and an achievement worthy for Taipei to learn. Hau also took the opportunity to announce the closing date of the Pavilion of Dreams has been postponed—from August 31 to December 31, 2012. He said the decision was to reflect public calls for a chance to visit the much-liked pavilion which showcases the island’s cutting-edge technology. In light of the upcoming Valentine’s Day on August 23, Taipei Expo Park invited the two mayors to witness the “bonding of a couple with a love lock.” The tour concluded with Hau presenting the dignitaries from Taichung with souvenirs including cinnamon-flavored hand sanitizer and blue bird casters.
