There are endless compelling activities put on in every corner of the city, from the romantic fireworks of Chinese Valentine’s Day to a cultural-arts feast. The sizzling heat of the days is forgotten as the city’s dazzling charms cool and refresh you. August in Taipei means romance. Taipei Xiahai Chenghuang Temple is home to the Old Man under the Moon, the Chinese Cupid, whose devotees ask for help in finding true love. Throughout August he’s the focus of activities in surrounding Datong District, bringing you the romance of traditional culture – sightseeing on old streets, fine food and drink, shopping, and play, served up with a healthy dose of the old community’s rich hospitality. Also in Datong District is Taipei Confucius Temple, where on September 28 the august Confucius Ceremony is staged. Come and see ancient Confucian rites, and visit the 4D Theater and experience a multimedia exhibit. Chinese Valentine’s Day this year falls in the latter part of August. On August 18 the city government is putting on a grand fireworks show in the area beside Dadaocheng Wharf and Yanping Riverside Park. The gorgeous pyrotechnics will light up the night sky, and will serve as a romantic blessing for sweethearts. On August 23, Chinese Valentine’s Day, the city government will stage a big Valentine’s Day party at Citizen Square before Taipei City Hall, featuring creative projections and a glittering sea of lanterns. Come on out and shout out your love! Arts and culture cleanse and refresh the soul. The city’s creative energies run at full throttle in August/September, providing rich soul nourishment, with the Taipei Arts Festival, Taipei Fringe Festival, and events at Songshan Cultural & Creative Park and Treasure Hill Artist Village.
